Ferst Foundation and First Lady Deal Celebrate Literacy with Retired Educators

March 29, 2017 | Fine Arts Center Barnesville, GA. - Lamar County preschoolers gathered Wednesday to celebrate the announcement of Lamar County Retired Educators Association and Margaret Fluellyn as the “Favorite Reader” winner of the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy (FFCL)/Georgia Retired Educators Association’s (GREA) “For the Love of Reading” Challenge video contest. Ms. Fluellyn recreated her winning performance as she entertained the audience with a spirited reading of Georgia author Eric Litwin’s Pete the Cat – I Love My White Shoes. Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal, herself a former educator, was on hand to present the “Favorite Reader” award and speak about the importance of early childhood literacy.

Competitive Common Good Funds Grant Award

Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy Beneficiary of the Competitive Common Good Funds Grant Award from the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta

Madison, GA- October 27, 2015 -Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy is one of this year’s recipients of the Common Good Funds grant from the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. The Common Good Funds program provides operating support for nonprofit organizations and is the Community Foundation’s most competitive grant. Eligible nonprofits must go through an extensive application process and out of the initial 110 eligible Letters of Intent submitted for this 2015 grant cycle, only 15 nonprofit organizations were selected to be Common Good Funds grant recipients.

Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy Honored by Wells Fargo through ‘Days of Giving’

Ferst Foundation was honored by Wells Fargo with a $1,000 grant at the Days of Giving celebration in Atlanta on Oct. 22.

Ferst Foundation was among 65 groups chosen by the bank’s team members for the recognition taking place at ZOO Atlanta. The donation helped push total giving to more than $1.5 million across Georgia since the program’s beginning six years ago.

“We can do so much with this and we appreciate Wells Fargo’s gift,” said Betsy Wagenhauser, Ferst Foundation’s President. “Times remain trying for many and the needs are great.”
